Dental Bridges are used to replace one or multiple missing teeth, this can improve your mouth in both a cosmetic and functional way. Dr. Young designs dental bridges to look very natural in both color and shape.
Using a dental bridge to fill the gap from missing teeth will help restore your proper bite, jaw alignment, and prevent teeth from shifting out of place. Bridges are used to:
What is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is created using two or more crowns which are placed on two healthy teeth or dental implants. These crowns are known as your anchoring teeth, this is also called the abutment teeth. It will be between the abutment teeth that the false tooth or teeth will rest. This arrangement creates a literal bridge. Dental Bridges are preferable to dentures because they are a less invasive way to replace missing teeth.
At Trent Young, DDS, Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we are able to create both removable bridges and permanent, meaning non-removable bridges. Dr. Young will discuss your options with you and together you will determine which is best for you physically, for the future, and financially.
Generally, Dr. Young will recommend the non-removable permanent bridge. This type of bridge is made from porcelain that is fused onto metal. This bridge most resembles your own natural teeth. Using two dental crowns which will serve as anchors, Dr. Young will then cement the bridge into place. This dental prosthesis is very strong and durable, it commonly lasts many years. Part of your regular dental checkup will include how your bridge is holding up and seeing if it needs to be re-cemented or even replaced.
